Tips for Choosing Curtains for the Bedroom

Choosing the right curtain is vital to transform the aesthetic quality of a room. But when it comes to choosing curtains for the bedroom, it takes on a different kind of importance. You need to look at function and purpose before aesthetic value or style. With so many fabrics to choose from, how do you find the right one for your bedroom?
Purpose of the Room
This is the most important factor to consider when you are deciding which fabric to use on your bedroom. Obviously, the main purpose of a bedroom is to provide a room for you to sleep in and relax. It is important to choose a curtain that is able to block out (or, reduce the amount of sunlight) the light that comes into the room through the windows. By blocking out the light, you are able to sleep soundly, no matter what time of day.
A thick and heavy curtain is also important for a bedroom so that you are able to block out the noise. By reducing the noise and keeping the lights away, you are able to sleep faster (and have better quality sleep).
Privacy
Privacy is an important factor to consider when choosing a curtain for your bedroom. This is an intimate room because this is where you seek refuge during an exhausting day or a place where you can rest. The best type of fabric for your bedroom should be thick and heavy. It should be able to maintain the privacy in the room so you can keep off unwanted attention. If you want, you can add a lining that is lighter in color and material. This will enable you to keep natural light into the bedroom during day time, or when you do not want to go to sleep yet.
Style
The aesthetic theme and style of the room is another factor to consider when choosing your bedroom curtains. Depending on that style, you can use it as a guide to find a fabric that would complement the look that you are going for. If you want to add a romantic and elegant feel to your bedroom, velvet and jacquard are good options.
If you are looking for a homier ambiance to your bedroom, you can always opt for lighter fabrics such as linen, cotton, silk, and sateen. However, these fabrics should be chosen only for your bedroom if the room is located in an area that is not in direct sunlight. That way, you can still limit the amount of natural light that enters the room. Another option is to choose these fabrics in darker colors to keep your bedroom more private and conducive for sleeping.
Color and Pattern
Aside from the aesthetic style of your bedroom, you need to think about the color and pattern of fabric you use. The choice of color and pattern on the fabric that you invest in can have a direct impact on how it can make your bedroom look. If you want a romantic and elegant bedroom, you can opt for Jacobean, bargello, and floral print. Or, if you are not into patterned curtain fabric, you can choose any dark yet solid colored fabric. If you want your bedroom to be trendy and modern, you can opt for modern prints and patterns such as botanical, scallop, chevron, and houndstooth prints. If you want a mix of both classic and modern styles, you can always stick to timeless patterns such as stripes or floral.
